“Mind-Blowing.”
“Life Changing!”
These are just a few phrases of many that have been used to describe a Total Solar Eclipse.
Idaho will be graced on Aug. 21, 2017 with being one of only 10 US states that will be in the ‘Path of Totality.’ This Path represents a 70-mile-wide swath of viewing the eclipse, in which viewers may witness 100% of the Sun disappearing when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. Only 0.3% of the world will be in this path!
Idaho is well known for being a state with clear summer skies, low amounts of artificial light and a renown place to visit and experience nature’s wonders. For these reasons and more, tens of thousands of people are expected to travel to Idaho for this event.
SOAR NORTHWEST will be on the Main Salmon River for this years eclipse with a group of families that collectively wish to experience this once in a lifetime event away from the crowds and being close to nature. This is an amazing opportunity to view the eclipse from the unique perspective of floating down the river in a raft. Time may feel like it slows down during an eclipse, but the river keeps moving to her own rhythm.
Depending on your surroundings, as totality nears you may experience strange things. Look. You’ll notice a resemblance to the onset of night, though not exactly. Areas much lighter than the sky near the Sun lie all around the horizon. Shadows look different. Listen. Usually, any breeze will dissipate and birds (many of whom will come in to roost) will stop chirping. It is quiet. Feel. A 10°–15° F drop in temperature is not unusual.” ~Astronomy Magazine
